Catalogue

The catalogue records the Deposit in the numeration adopted at the 1978 accessioning (VI.1919.01–41). Entries state materials, dimensions, dating, and provenance so far as these can be established; where they cannot, the entry says so. Researchers noting errors are asked to write to the Keeper, who reads such letters with gratitude and answers them slowly.

The sealed archive (unaccessioned)

The archive received in 1919 under seal was opened by order of the Trustees in 1931 and found to comprise correspondence, accounts, and ritual papers, 1770s–1917. A portion, removed from London for safekeeping, was destroyed by enemy action in 1940–41; the war-losses list appeared in Cygnus. The household accounts survive complete and are, the Institute is bound to say, the best-kept documents the Order produced.
